Back in time through Olive trees

The Sukošan Bike Route offers cyclists a delightful journey through the picturesque landscapes of this charming coastal town. Starting from Sukošan, nestled in the expansive Zlatna Luka Bay, the route meanders through verdant fields and olive groves, leading riders into the serene hinterland.

After crossing the main road, the path ascends a 1.3 km stretch of gravel, rewarding cyclists with a panoramic road that provides stunning views of Sukošan and the surrounding fields. This area is rarely visited by tourists and has traditionally focused on agriculture, a way of life that was disrupted during the war but has since persevered. Although only a 10-minute drive by car, you'll feel as if you've traveled back in time. Agriculture remains the primary driving force here; encountering cows or flocks of sheep on the road is commonplace.

In recent years, numerous villas with swimming pools have been constructed in this tranquil area, catering to those seeking a peaceful and unique experience, less commercialized than the coastal regions.

This route is ideal for recreational mountain bike (MTB) and trekking enthusiasts seeking a blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Ljetnikovac Palac Sukošan

Archbishop's Summer Residence

The first stop on this Sukošan bike route is the most beautiful one. Constructed in 1470 by Zadar Archbishop Matheo Valaresso, this summer residence stands on an artificially created islet in the middle of the bay. Although only modest remnants remain today, they hint at the structure's former grandeur. The residence, known locally as "Palac," is a significant example of Renaissance rural architecture and served as a retreat for church dignitaries from Zadar. During the Cretan War, it provided refuge for Sukošan residents from Ottoman attacks. Today, it stands as a symbol of the town and is particularly enchanting at sunset, offering a unique sight. In the summer months, visitors can swim to its remains.

Scenc view

After around 5 km from the start you will visit this Scenic view at around 126 meters of elevation. From there you can see whole Sukošan, Bibinje, biggest marine on the Adriatic Sea and islands. Unfortunately not a lot of infrastructure there.

Gospa od Vrčeva

Glavica and Vrčevo Hill

Vrčevo, a plateau at 213 meters above sea level, is situated among villages like Gorica, Glavica, and Debeljak. First mentioned in 1371, it offers panoramic views stretching from Dugi Otok to the Velebit mountains. Local folklore refers to Vrčevo as the "witches' hill," with legends suggesting it was a gathering place for witches (vještice). Elders recall tales of witches convening on the hill, dancing in circles, and engaging in mythical conflicts. In 2008, to transform this perception, a group of ten pilgrims walked 300 km from Međugorje, carrying a statue of Our Lady (Gospa), which now resides in a stone chapel atop the hill. This site has since become a place of spiritual significance, attracting visitors seeking both its rich history and serene environment

Padel court

Surprise! Just a few kilometers before completing the Sukošan Bike Route, you'll find a newly built padel court set against a stunning backdrop. If you're not too tired, why not stop by for a game? Be sure to book in advance through the official Padel Sukošan website.
